Exterior Floodlight Bulb Replacement in Mentor, Ohio

October 27, 2026by Colin

While I was at a Mentor home installing a gutter downspout, the homeowner mentioned another item on their list: an exterior light that hadn’t worked since they moved in.

They weren’t sure whether it needed a bulb or a new fixture. The lights were about 10 feet up, they didn’t have a ladder, and they weren’t comfortable with heights. Since I already had a ladder there for the gutter work, it made sense to take a look.

It turned out to be a straightforward fix. I picked up replacement bulbs, changed both, and the lights worked immediately. No fixture replacement or other repairs were needed.

Finding Replacement Bulbs

I removed one of the old bulbs and took it with me while picking up parts for the downspout installation. That gave me something to match at the store rather than guessing which replacement to buy.

The exterior floodlight bulbs came in a two-pack. I recommended replacing both while I was there so the brightness would match and the older bulb wouldn’t be left as another potential reason for a ladder visit.

Once the new bulbs were installed, both lights came on without any trouble. Getting the replacements took longer than installing them.

A Small Task That Made Sense to Add to the Visit

Changing two light bulbs isn’t a big project, but getting to them was the obstacle for this homeowner. They also didn’t know whether buying bulbs would solve the problem.

In this case, I already had the ladder on-site and was heading to the store for materials. Adding the lights to our to-do list meant the homeowner could get another issue handled without arranging a separate appointment.

The photo shows the lights working after the replacement. Something that hadn’t worked since move-in was finally checked off the list.

How Much Does Exterior Light Bulb Replacement Cost?

For a standalone visit, a task like this would be $125 plus the cost of the bulbs, assuming a similarly straightforward replacement. If the fixture still doesn’t work with new bulbs or the access is different, that becomes a different scope of work.

A separate visit isn’t always the best value for two bulbs, though. If you have several small things that need attention, a Half Day Helper or Whole Day Helper appointment may make more sense.

Grouping tasks gives us a chance to handle more of your list during the same visit instead of scheduling a separate trip for each item. That’s especially useful for the little jobs that keep getting put off because you don’t have the ladder, tools, time, or desire to tackle them yourself.

Getting Help With Hard-to-Reach Lights in Mentor

This Mentor project didn’t need a new light fixture. It needed matching replacement bulbs and someone comfortable getting up a ladder to install them.

If you have an exterior light that needs attention, send Colin Can Help a photo of the fixture and an estimate of its height. Let me know whether it’s the only task or part of a longer list so we can figure out a sensible way to handle the visit.
