A real estate client with a house for sale in Parma contacted Colin Can Help about a buyer’s repair request. The buyer wanted an existing laundry room outlet replaced with a GFCI outlet.
The old outlet still worked, but it was a standard receptacle rather than a GFCI. This wasn’t a service call to restore power. It was a specific upgrade requested as part of the home sale.
I supplied and installed the new GFCI outlet and cover plate, tested the installation, and sent completion photos to the client. The work was completed within a one-hour visit for $150.
Replacing the Laundry Room Outlet
For this project, I was able to reuse the existing electrical box and wiring. There was already a ground wire available in the box, and no additional wiring or box replacement was needed to complete the requested work.
The job included:
-
Removing the existing standard outlet and old plate.
-
Providing a new GFCI outlet and matching cover plate.
-
Connecting the new outlet to the existing wiring.
-
Mounting the outlet and installing the plate.
-
Testing the completed installation.
-
Disposing of the old parts.
Because the existing setup was usable, the job stayed focused on replacing the device rather than expanding into additional repairs.
Testing and Documenting the Completed Work
After installing the outlet, I checked it with my plug-in outlet tester. The tester indicated correct wiring, and I also checked the GFCI’s trip and reset operation.
I then sent the real estate client three sets of photos:
-
The original outlet before replacement.
-
The finished GFCI outlet and new plate.
-
The outlet with the tester plugged in, showing the test result.
That gave the client a record of the work completed and photos they could share with the buyer.
Completed Within a One-Hour Visit
This replacement was finished within an hour. The existing box, wiring, and ground connection allowed me to complete the installation without additional work on the circuit.
That timing reflects this particular project. An outlet replacement that reveals wiring problems or needs a different scope would need to be evaluated separately.
How Much Did This GFCI Outlet Replacement Cost?
The total for this Parma project was $150, including:
-
The new GFCI outlet and cover plate.
-
Removal of the old outlet.
-
Installation and testing.
-
Disposal of the old parts.
-
Before-and-after photos and a photo of the tester result.
This is a completed-project example, not a fixed price for every outlet replacement. Send photos and a description of the requested work so Colin Can Help can review the scope and discuss pricing.
Help With Buyer-Requested Repairs in Parma
For this client, the task was straightforward: complete the requested outlet upgrade and provide photos showing the finished work.
Colin Can Help completed the replacement, checked its operation, and sent the documentation so the client could move forward with that item on the buyer’s repair list.
