YOU DON'T NEED GLASSES.
YOU JUST NEED BETTER LIGHTS.

Colin's Guide to Light Fixtures

Every lighting project is unique, but these are the questions and answers that show up in almost every successful job.
How do I choose the right light fixture for a room?

Start by thinking about what the room needs the light to do. A kitchen or bathroom needs brighter, more functional lighting, while a dining room or bedroom can focus more on style and atmosphere. The size of the fixture should also match the room so it doesn’t look too small or overpower the space.

How big should a light fixture be for my room?

A good rule of thumb is to match the fixture size to the scale of the room. Small rooms typically look best with compact ceiling lights, while larger rooms can support wider fixtures or multiple lights. For dining tables or islands, the fixture should usually be about half to two-thirds the width of the surface below it.

What types of light fixtures work best in different rooms?

Ceiling lights are common for general room lighting, while pendant lights work well over islands and dining tables. Wall-mounted fixtures are often used in bathrooms or hallways, and recessed lights are great for evenly lighting larger spaces.

Can I replace an existing light fixture with a different style?

In most cases, yes. As long as there is an existing electrical box in the ceiling or wall, a new fixture can usually be installed in its place. The main considerations are the fixture weight, mounting hardware, and whether the box is properly supported.

How long does it take to install a new light fixture?

Most standard light fixture replacements take about 30 to 60 minutes. More complex installs, such as large chandeliers or multiple pendant lights, can take longer depending on the mounting and adjustments needed.

Do I need to buy the fixture before scheduling installation?

Yes. Most homeowners choose and purchase the fixture they like first. Once you have it, installation can usually be scheduled quickly and completed in a single visit.

What if I’m not sure which fixture to buy?

That happens a lot. If you’re unsure, you can send a photo of the room and a few fixture options you’re considering. I’m happy to give feedback on what will likely work best before installation.

HOW OUR PAINTING PROJECTS ARE PRICED

Pricing built on experience, not guesswork
Walls

Wall painting is the foundation of most interior paint projects and the reference point for all add-on pricing. This is where the biggest visual transformation happens, and it is also where experience matters most.

Base pricing

  • Standard bedroom or similar room (up to approx. 12 × 12): $850

  • Two-room bundle: $1,500

  • Single accent wall: $250

Room size is based on what a real estate professional would consider a standard bedroom or comparable space. Larger rooms, higher ceilings, or unusual layouts may require review.

What’s included

  • Two full coats of premium Sherwin-Williams paint

  • Up to two gallons of wall paint included

  • Full surface prep including nail holes, light dents, and sanding

  • Complete floor and furniture protection using layered plastic and drop cloths

  • Clean lines, consistent coverage, and final walkthrough touch-ups

Paint is applied at full coverage, not stretched thin. Using sufficient material allows thicker, more even coats, better leveling, and fewer touch-ups after the second coat.

Paint selection
Wall paint is selected based on room use, lighting, and desired finish. Cashmere Low Lustre is commonly used for its smooth finish and ability to hide minor imperfections. Other sheens or products may be recommended when durability or lighting conditions call for it.

Tinted paint is always left with the homeowner for future touch-ups.

What’s not included

  • Ceilings

  • Trim, doors, or closets

  • Major drywall repair or water damage restoration

  • Moving large furniture or clearing rooms

These items can be added individually or handled as separate services.

How pricing stays predictable
Rooms that fall within the standard size range and condition can be priced clearly and confidently. Before scheduling, photos are reviewed to confirm wall condition, repairs, and any specialty prep needs so there are no surprises on paint day.

Ceilings

Ceilings are not automatically included with wall painting, but they are one of the most impactful upgrades you can make to a room. Old ceilings often show shadows, roller marks, water stains, or uneven color that only become obvious once the walls are freshly painted.

Pricing

  • Standard ceiling (empty or lightly furnished room): $250 add-on | $400 standalone

  • Furnished rooms or complex layouts: Reviewed by photo

  • Stain-blocking primer required: Additional cost if needed

Pricing assumes a standard bedroom or living room with ceiling height under 15 feet.

What’s included

  • Protection of floors, furniture, and fixtures

  • Light prep including sanding and spot repairs

  • Two full coats of flat ceiling paint

  • Clean, even finish designed to minimize glare and streaking

How ceilings are painted
Ceilings are painted using professional rollers and flat finishes designed to hide imperfections. Work is completed with controlled lighting and consistent coverage to avoid flashing or lap marks.

Notes

  • Water stains, smoke damage, or discoloration may require primer

  • Textured ceilings can be painted if the texture is stable

  • Vaulted or high ceilings may require review

Trim

Trim is priced separately from wall painting due to the detailed prep, slower application, and higher-finish materials required. It can be added to a room repaint or completed as a standalone service.

Pricing

  • Baseboards, window trim, and door casing (standard room): $250 add-on | $400 standalone

  • Heavy or oversized trim packages: Reviewed by photo

Pricing assumes a standard bedroom or living room footprint. Final pricing is confirmed after photos are reviewed.

What’s included

  • Nail hole filling and light caulk touch-ups

  • Sanding to smooth previous brush marks or wear

  • Two full coats of durable trim enamel

  • Clean, sharp lines and even sheen

How trim is painted
Trim is painted in place using fine-finish rollers and brushes designed to minimize texture and brush marks. Floors are protected with layered coverings throughout the process.

Notes

  • Trim previously coated in oil-based paint may require additional prep

  • Heavily damaged or layered trim may need repair pricing

  • Decorative or historic trim profiles require review

Doors

Doors are painted separately from walls due to the extra prep, handling, and drying time required. They can be added to a room repaint or completed as a standalone service.

Pricing

  • Interior door (one side): $50 add-on | $100 standalone

  • Interior door (both sides): $85 add-on | $150 standalone

  • Closet or utility doors: Priced the same as interior doors

Final pricing is confirmed after photos are reviewed.

What’s included

  • Light prep and sanding

  • Two full coats of durable trim enamel

  • Clean, smooth finish with consistent sheen

  • Hardware carefully protected or removed as needed

How doors are painted
Most doors are painted in place to reduce disruption. Doors are only removed if necessary and if space allows for proper drying.

Notes

  • Severely damaged or previously peeling doors may require additional prep

  • Heavy commercial or oversized doors require review

Closets

Closets are painted separately from room walls. They are almost always finished in white and use a different paint than living spaces, so they are handled as add-ons or standalone projects.

Pricing

  • Reach-in closet: $150 add-on | $225 standalone

  • Walk-in closet: Starting at $250 add-on | $325 standalone

  • Coat or utility closets: Priced individually

Final pricing is confirmed after photos are reviewed.

Preparation requirement
Closets must be completely emptied before arrival.
If items need to be removed on site, a $75 clearing fee applies.

What’s included

  • Proper prep and protection

  • Two full coats of durable white paint

  • Clean, uniform finish

  • Full cleanup

Notes

  • Shelving removal is not included

  • Heavy built-ins may require review

Efficiency Discounts

If you’ve made it this far, you’re already setting your project up for success. Certain conditions allow work to move faster and with less risk, and when that happens, I’m happy to pass some of that efficiency back to you.

To receive these discounts, just mention that you’d like the empty room and/or no carpet efficiency thank-you when you reach out.

Available Efficiency Benefits:

  • Empty room: –$50
A room containing no furniture or personal belongings. Typically either a house you just bought or are selling or you removed all the furniture for us to make the job easier.

  • No carpet: –$50
The easiest way to ensure no splatter or paint drops on carpet is to not have any in the room to start! We always do two layers of covering over the areas we are working, but we love not having the mental worry of “what if.”

  • Empty room with no carpet: –$100

How this works

Even with these conditions, the same protection, prep, and finish standards apply. Floors are still protected, surfaces are still prepped properly, and paint is still applied at full coverage.

What changes is the flow of the work. Clear, open spaces reduce setup time, lower the chance of accidental contact, and allow the job to move smoothly from start to finish. When the job is simpler to execute without cutting any corners, I’m able to reflect that in the final price.

Discounts are confirmed after photos are reviewed and before scheduling.

A few quick notes

  • Applies to painting projects where the listed conditions are met

  • Not available on small standalone or minimum service projects

  • Does not stack with bundled room pricing

Exterior Painting

Helping You Master First Impressions

Exterior paint does more than change the look of your home. It protects it. In Northeast Ohio, weather is tough on siding, trim, and doors, and the right finish acts like armor against snow, rain, and summer sun. At the same time, a fresh coat transforms how the world sees your home, boosting curb appeal and giving you a place you are proud to come back to every day.

Your home takes a beating from snow, rain, and summer sun. We use Sherwin-Williams paints, made by a company that knows this climate inside and out, so your exterior gets lasting protection along with a fresh look.
We’re here to make your outdoor surfaces look better, not tear up the spaces around them. Careful prep, tidy work, and full cleanup mean your lawn, beds, and walkways stay just as neat as your new paint.
A freshly painted exterior doesn’t just look nice on day one. It’s the kind of upgrade that makes your home stand out on the block and keeps it looking sharp season after season.

Wall Repairs

Wall Prep is the KEY to a Great Paint Job

Every home collects dents, dings, and cracks over time. Maybe it’s a doorknob hole, water damage from a leak, or seams that have split as the house settled. Left alone, these flaws don’t just look bad — they ruin even the best paint job. We take care of repairs big and small so your walls look smooth, clean, and ready for a lasting finish.

From small nail pops to fist-sized holes, we patch and smooth damage so it blends back into the wall like nothing ever happened.
Settling, shifting, or poor drywall work can leave cracks and split seams. We repair and reinforce these spots so they don’t keep coming back.
Leaks, spills, or old stains can bleed through fresh paint if left untreated. We cut out damaged areas, seal stains, and prime so your walls stay clean.
