Flower Bed Maintenance

Colin's Guide To Healthy and Beautiful Flower Beds

Properly space plants to minimize gaps where weeds could potentially take root, reducing competition for resources. It is also important to space things so you can easily get around them when it is time to prune, weed, or decorate for the holidays.
Apply a layer of mulch to suppress weed growth by blocking sunlight and preventing weed seeds from germinating. Adding compost, leaf hummus, or other mediums can also help make your beds look great while taking care of the plants at the same time.
Consistent manual weeding is essential to remove any emerging weeds before they establish a foothold in the flower bed. Regularly breaking up the soil makes it hard for unwanted plants to germinate and take root.
Making sure your plants get the water and nutrients they need will be the hardest part of your flower bed. Learn to look for the signs that your plant needs some help in our Library section.
