Lawn Mowing 101

Lawn Mowing

How To Mow A Lawn The Right Way

A few things you must do to properly mow your lawn are:
  • Always use a clean, sharp blade. Dull, rusty, or chipped blades can cut poorly or even damage your lawn.
  • Make sure your lawn mower is clean and in good shape. If the cutting deck isn’t level, wheels are wobbly, or if the machine leaks gas or oil, it will cause a poor cut.
  • The type of grass you have impacts how you need to mow it.
  • The height of your lawn is a big determinant of how much you need to water, the number of weeds in the lawn, how well it can withstand heat or drought, and how green it is.
  • Never leave clumps of thatch on the surface, but don’t be afraid to mulch your clippings back into the lawn. This is how it gets most of its nutrients.
  • Don’t forget to edge your walkways! A clean cut edge along your driveway and sidewalks makes all thee difference in how an entire house appears.

How Often Do We Mow Grass?

During the months of April - November we mow grass Tuesday-Fridays.

Our Weekly Lawn Mowing customers get first availability for all other services needed. Your mowing services can be billed after each mowing or prepaid a month in advance.

During the summer months, it is important to remember to water your lawn to ensure we have healthy grass to mow.

Unless it is an entire week of rain or natural disaster, we will be at your property every week to maintain the lawn.

Every Other Week

We do not recommend Every Other Week Services to most customers. Whenever you cut grass, you shouldn’t take more than 1/3 of the blade off at one time. When you do, you overstress the grass, and it can die or get diseased. More importantly, two weeks of growth doesn’t look good and leaves a mess after cutting it.

We DO NOT offer this option in the months of April & May.

The price for this service will be at least 1.5 times the price of a weekly cut and your yard will often look like it is in need of a cut.

As Needed

If you take a vacation or your lawn mower quits on you, we can help out for as long as you need. Give us a call or email and let us know when you need service and we will fit you into our route ASAP.

Lawn Care & Landscaping

What is Included in the Service?

We will mow your lawn with either a commercial grade 30-inch push mower or a 42-inch riding lawn mower. All of our mowers have regularly cleaned and sharpened blades to provide you with a clean cut. All grass areas will be mowed between 3-4.5 inches in height depending on the season. We believe in keeping the grass taller than some people but do so to ensure you have a healthy and beautiful lawn and limit the chance of summer burnouts. Unless specifically requested, we do not bag the grass clippings. Our high horsepower motors do a great job of mulching the grass up fine enough that it doesn't clump and feeds the lawn as it decomposes in the grass.
After we mow all the areas that we can access, we go over your entire property with line trimmers to ensure that there are no areas the mower missed and all the grass is evenly cut. We also use this tool to cut an edge separating your lawn from your sidewalks and driveway. We do not cut down anything in the flower beds during mowing services, that would be covered in our bed maintenance services.
Clean Up
Once we have mowed and edged the entire property, we use backpack blowers to blow off all of your paved surfaces, and any grass still on the yard, and make sure everything looks picture perfect. We wrap up the service by taking an after photo of the lawn, closing any gates, invoicing the service, and heading to our next stop.
