Too many people rely on social media to interact and advertise to their audience. I’m not saying get away from it entirely, but shift the focus of your efforts. Instead of a musician telling people to go to Spotify to stream their music, why not send people to your website. Instead of an author taking people to Amazon to find their books, why not their own website?

What I am saying is to stop letting the big corporations make money off the data generated by your advertising efforts. If you have your own website, you can collect the data that the big corporations are trying to get their hands on, you can fully control the user experience, and you can generate revenue through ads or direct sales.

There are too many upsides to having your own platform to list in one article and they are more affordable than you think.
