Top Podcast Directories
Just like all of my other marketing strategies, I believe with podcasting it is important to have your content listed and distributed to as many places as possible. Idea being; the more eyes that see your well designed covers and titles, the more that will click them. You can best weigh your odds by being listed in every directory possible.
For your convenience I put together this list of the ones I recommend starting off with. I will try to include as many sign up links as possible so you can just keep opening up tabs and have your podcast listed all over by the time you reach the end of this article.
#1) iTunes / Apple Podcasts
iTunes and the iPod is where Podcasting all began. It is no wonder that they are number one on the list of places you need to be listed.
Getting listed on Apple Podcasts / iTunes isn’t a recommendation, its a mandate if you are going to do anything successful with your podcast. Luckily for us all, it is FREE to sign up! All you have to do is sign up through Podcasts Connect.
You will want to have a profile cover art ready that is at least 1400 x 1400 pixels. It is my suggestion to have the same profile picture across all platforms to build brand awareness, but do whatever feels right to you.
You have to be on Apple Podcasts/iTunes if you want your podcast to be found by most people. You’ll need an iTunes account and it can take up to a few weeks to get listed, but in my experience, it only takes a few days. They require your podcast cover art to be at least 1400 x 1400 pixels as well.
Spotify has recently stepped up their game and purchased my native podcasting platform, Anchor.fm. By doing this they have made it clear that Podcasting will stay as a part of their main content strategy for the near future.
I couldn’t find a link for you but if you have Anchor.fm host your Podcast, they will set it all up for you!
#3) Google Play Music
Google is another company like Spotify that are getting deeper into Podcasting. Their service Google Play Music is a pretty new service but like anything else Google, you want your name there.
I haven’t played around too much within it, I just have my RSS Feed auto send there, but it is a platform on my agenda to check out more and get deeper into.
You can sign up through the Google Play Music Podcast Portal.
Stitcher reportedly has 8 million registered users and more than 65,000 podcasts. It’s a place you absolutely want to get your podcast listed. Though that might sound like a saturated market, it is one I advise you to at least throw your hat into!
You’ll sign up as a content provider through their Partner Signup page.
TuneIn is another popular podcast app and directory. It’s available on pretty much every platform and device. Not the most popular, but good enough for the top five of this list and certainly worth your time to be present on!
Blubrry is a podcast hosting provider but they also have a popular podcast directory and WordPress plugin. It took me less than a minute to get my podcast listed on Blubrry, the process couldn’t be much easier!
Spreaker does it all! Hosting, apps, desktop software, great online community, and more. You just need to create a free account which you can link through your Facebook account and import your RSS feed and you are good to go!
#8) Digital Podcast
Another super simple directory to join. Simply set up an account, import your RSS feed and you are live!
iPodder is another directory with a simple form and they will review your podcast before adding it. You only need to put in your email address, category, and RSS feed URL.
Podcastpedia.org gives you the ability to add your Facebook and Twitter pages in addition to your podcast details.
