How to Fit in on Facebook. Your Guide to Perfectly Sized Facebook Images.

Everyone uses Facebook for different reasons but something we all can agree on, your images are important. It is important to have high quality images that stand out as people are scrolling.

One great way to do that is make sure that your image is formatted in the perfect size! Let’s go through them one by one so that you can fully know what you are doing when you go look at all of your images.

Profile photo

The all mighty profile photo. I bet you all know what I am talking about but how many of you know what the perfect amount of pixels are for this piece of social currency? Facebook profile photos are displayed at 180 x 180 pixels on desktops and shrink down to 128 x 128 on most smartphones.

Facebook cover photos are the banners on top of your Facebook timeline.
They display at 820 x 312 pixels on most computers and 640 x 360 pixels on most smartphones.
It is important to keep in consideration where the profile picture will be sitting when designing your cover photo. Some people get really creative with it and leave a lasting impression with their profiles.

Event covers

Facebook event covers have a different size from a regular page’s cover photo. If you’re planning an event, make sure to upload an image that’s 1200 pixels wide by 628 pixels tall.

Image posts

If you upload a single image to your timeline, it’s best to stick either to a square image or a photo with a 3:2 aspect ratio because Facebook will automatically scale your image to a thumbnail.

Facebook ads

If you’re using Facebook to promote a business or organization and want to reach a wider audience you might not have been able to reach otherwise, placing paid ads on Facebook would be your best bet. Facebook ads may be single-image ads, carousel ads (which allow you to display up to 10 images or videos and can link to different web pages), or video ads.

For image-based ads, whether they are single-images or a carousel, keep photos to a 1.91:1 ratio with recommended dimensions of 1200 pixels wide and 628 pixels tall. Take note that you’ll have to submit your ad to Facebook for approval. Things like too much text on your image can disqualify your ad. Use Facebook’s handy image text check tool to make sure your ad fits their standards.
