Your Blog Will Be Lost Forever Without Yoast

Hi fellow bloggers! If you got to this page you already know that you need to have your content programmed to be seen by search engines but don’t quite know how to do it. You are not alone, there are millions like you. Even those who know it all. Even myself when I get it right on one post, it does not ensure I will do it again on another. But luckily we can help ourselves and weigh the deck in our favor a little bit. One of the best ways to do that through WordPress is through plugins and my favorite for this comes from a company called Yoast.

Who is Yoast?

Yoast is a company on a mission to:

Give everyone the opportunity to rank in the search engines. Our SEO plugin, blog posts, and online courses should enable both large companies as well as small websites to attract the traffic they desire.

Yoast was founded in 2010 by Joost de Valk.

Company History:

The founder of Yoast, Joost de Valk grew up in Beuningen, in the Netherlands and was always intrigued with computers. Joost got his first compute r at the age of 12. To pay his parents back :

“I had to pay them back, though. I delivered newspapers for two years but, I got my very own computer. And, my parents were among the first to have a decent internet connection.”

Having a computer with internet access was a huge thing to any kid in those days (still is!) but Joost decided to make a career out of what he liked to do on the computer, launching his first website in 1994. He spent his days buying computer parts, teaching himself not only how to write code but English as well! Becoming fluent in both.

This was just during high school by the way!

It was in 2005 after working on WebKit when he realized:

The concept of open source appealed to me, I liked the equality and the openness of WebKit. I loved the fact that everyone, including me, could contribute to something. The concept of open source appealed to me.

A year later he got a job with in SEO and loved the technical aspects of it. This is when the concept of Yoast begins to brew.

He was able to write copy, knew the technical side of the internet, and was a great speaker. When you have these skills and experiences align, it makes sense to go start something of your own! A few years later, in 2010 Yoast was born.

Joost quit his SEO consultant job and began his company. Thinking he would never hire any employees he named it after his blog, Yoast. In the beginning he was able to land clients doing consulting on his own while working on developing WordPress plugins. In October of 2010, Yoast SEO was created and changed peoples lives.

What the Colin Can Help Community Says About Yoast:

Working a lot with Technical SEO I experience some fairly basic mistakes on a regular basis. Yoast has done an incredible job over the past few years resolving a lot of the technical work that previously required developers. New WordPress sites using Yoast are in a better position than ever thanks to the tool.

What I don’t like about Yoast SEO?

Some of its suggestions can make your article read poorly. It stuffs keywords when allowed.
It can slow down your site a bit.

All in all, its great and I use it personally and recommend it to everyone.
